Solar Design Engineer

The Solar Design Engineer position is part of the engineering team and reports directly to the Engineering Manager. On a technical level, the engineer is responsible for all aspects of solar PV system design, including electrical, structural, civil, and soil engineering principles, as well as the uniqueness of solar PV industry codes and standards. In addition, on a service level, is also responsible for maintaining effective customer communication, understanding project requirements, and facilitating all deliverables to ensure a fantastic customer experience.

This can be an entry-level, junior, or senior-level position, and we will provide all necessary training to teach you all the aspects of working in PV and smart-grid industries. We’re looking for results-oriented candidates with a passion for energy, and who are genuinely interested in long-term, sustainable growth for our country, environment, and economy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drafting of system designs (CAD)
  • Engineering calculations
  • Document tracking
  • Revision control
  • Build and support templates, excel calculators, and design tools
  • SalesForce management
  • Maintaining solid customer service and customer communication
  • Prompt response to emails and phone calls
  • Multi-tasking many action items and under tight deadlines

Education or Desired License and Certificates:

  • 4-year college degree completed (engineering or science degree preferred, but not required)
  • Familiarity with construction codes and standards
  • Professional Engineering or Architects’ License a plus, but not required
  • Grid Alternatives / Volunteer or previous hands-on installation training a plus
  • NABCEP certification a plus

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong detail-orientation and proofreading skills; attention-to-detail is a must.
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Superior communication skills both verbally and written with various corporate levels, both internally and externally
  • Strong foundation in mathematical and analytical principles
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to communicate complex systems with both technical and non-technical personnel (teaching experience a major plus)
  • Time management skills and ability to manage large volumes of projects
  • Knowledge of electrical design theory and concepts a plus
  • Knowledge of mechanical design a plus
  • Knowledge of residential and commercial construction a plus
