Job Description:

The Electrical Engineer position is part of the engineering team and reports directly to the Chief Electrical Engineer. On a technical level, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for performing engineering work in cooperation with the drafting and engineering team to produce complete permitting and construction design packages for PV and/or energy storage systems. In addition to engineering work, the Electrical Engineer is also responsible for cooperatively developing design approach methods and equipment selections to ensure the best overall project design and customer goals are achieved. The Electrical Engineer also reviews the final site plans and coordinates with the senior design staff and other engineering disciplines to ensure compliance with other design considerations such as Civil and Structural Engineering. In addition, on a service level, the Electrical Engineer is also responsible for maintaining effective customer communication, understanding project requirements, and facilitating deliverables to ensure a fantastic customer experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engineering calculations (including fault current analyses)
  • Coordination studies
  • Document tracking
  • Maintaining solid customer service and customer communication
  • Prompt response to emails and phone calls
  • Delegating and following up on activities/tasks to other members of staff
  • Reviewing and performing quality control on deliverables
  • Training and developing engineers and drafters on electrical systems design & codes
  • Support construction activities and perform on stie visits as necessary to support the project
  • Review of Request for Proposals and support proposal development
  • Multi-tasking many action items and under tight deadlines

Education or Desired License and Certificates:

  • 4-year (or equivalent) college degree completed (engineering preferred, but not required), or;
  • 5+ years relevant industry experience
  • Familiarity with construction codes and standards
  • Professional Engineering or Architects’ License required
  • Grid Alternatives/Volunteer or previous hands-on installation training a plus
  • NABCEP certification a plus

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong detail-orientation and proofreading skills; attention-to-detail is a must
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Superior communication skills both verbally and written with various corporate levels, both internally and externally
  • Strong foundation in mathematical and analytical principles
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to communicate complex systems with both technical and non-technical
  • Time management skills and ability to manage large volumes of projects
  • Engineering Project Management background a plus
  • Specific experience with large scale utility equipment (i.e., transforms, switchgear and circuit breakers)
  • Experience in the overall aspects of design engineering, construction, start-up and subsequent O&M of energy projects
  • Experience with power generation, power system protection and coordination, compliance and relay testing
  • Working knowledge of electricity and hazards posed by electrical equipment and conductors is required
  • Practice achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance with NEBCEP Standards Familiarity with Volt/Var Control; Power/Frequency Control, Renewable Generator Models, Geomagnetic Disturbance Analysis is a plus

  • Fremont, California (partially remote, fully remote also possible)
