Case Study

Sonic Manufacturing Technologies

The Challenge:

Sonic Manufacturing Technologies decided to go solar, but was required by the City of Fremont to have a mechanical screen shielding the roof’s HVAC units from view from the surrounding streets.

If the existing screens were left on the roof, they would take up extra space, decreasing maximum solar production and adding shade on modules at certain times of the day.

How We Helped:

SepiSolar designed Sonic’s solar PV system so that the back of the solar models would simultaneously act as the required HVAC mechanical screen, without sacrificing solar production.

With the assistance of developers Mynt Systems and Sharp Development Company, SepiSolar took careful measurements of the roof and site angles from the street, ensuring that the designed tilt of the modules would shield the HVAC units.

The Results:

SepiSolar worked with Fremont permitting authorities to approve our innovative solar design as a simultaneous mechanical screen.

As a result, the solar developers provided Sonic with a beautiful solar PV system that maximized production while meeting local building codes.
